Cape Cod Bicycle Tours, Cycling and Biking Trails

Cape Cod has a substantial network of paved multi-use trails perfect for walking, hiking, biking and jogging. The longest network, over 25 miles, is the Cape Cod Rail Trail. It follows old railway lines through six Mid/Lower Cape towns.

These paths border scenic meadows, ponds, cranberry bogs and forests throughout the Cape.

The Rail Trail begins in South Dennis and wanders next to cranberry bogs, forests and lakes for around 15 miles before connecting with the 1.6-mile Nauset Marsh Trail. This trail then leads to the Atlantic at Coast Guard Beach in Eastham. Or, you can continue on another five miles to S. Wellfleet. 

Earlier along the route in Brewster, another path leads to a paved network in Nickerson State Park. In Provincetown, the Province Lands Trail provides 8 miles of up-and-down cycling through sand dunes and pine forests, ending at Herring Cove Beach.

Both sides of the Cape Cod Canal have service roads following the 17.4-mile waterway. Bicyclists can enjoy these trails while viewing the water and scenic rolling pine-covered hills. Whatever trail you choose, be aware that Massachusetts state law requires children under the age of 12 to wear a helmet while riding a bicycle.
